Care for Puppies & Kittens
It's an exciting time when you get a new puppy or kitten! Everyone who comes into contact with this adorable, cuddly new family member cannot help but smile.
As entertaining as it may be, your new pet's first year of life also includes some serious healthcare obligations.
During your pet's first year, your veterinarian will create a personalized health care plan to meet their unique needs, as well as provide you with plenty of support and advice.
Your Pet’s First Appointment
Puppies should have their first veterinary visit around six weeks of age, and kittens should have their first visit around eight weeks.
During this first visit, your pet will be given a thorough physical examination to assess its overall health, look for signs of congenital defects, and check for external parasites.
In addition, we'll give your puppy or kitten the first round of vaccinations and treat them for roundworms and hookworms.
More About Vaccines & Prevention
Finally, we will perform a blood test on kittens to determine if they have feline leukemia or feline immunodeficiency virus.
Follow-up Appointments
Between 6 and 16 weeks, puppies and kittens should have 3-4 veterinary visits. These visits allow our veterinarian to check your pet's health and administer vaccines.
